February 2003: I have had to make a very hard decision. I have decided not play baseball this season. Basketball is still in progress and now with the chess and beta clubs at school I just need a little break and baseball puts a lot of demand on my time. I still love the game and may return to competitive play next year, but for now I will take a little break.
June 2002: I can't believe it, we did not do all that well this season, but we really had a lot of fun and I learned a lot this season. I also had my dad as an assistant coach so I got to spend a lot of time with dad this season which made it great fun. Basketball is taking up a lot of my time now, my dad and I were just ask to be part of a summer league in basketball up in Citrus County Florida. We will be with the coach who my dad considers the best coach in the league and many of the better players from the league. We will have a great summer of basketball and then in the fall I am passing on fall baseball once again so I can continue with basketball again this year. I will be back in the spring of 2003 for regular baseball season as I still love the game, it is just so much fun playing basketball too I want to continue to do both.
April 2002: Baseball has started while basketball is still going on. I am lucky however that my head coach for baseball this year has a son who is also in the basketball playoffs so he understands my missing practice. Coach has ask my dad to be his assistant coach when he finishes coaching basketball so this is going to be a neat season.
June 2001: Baseball is over for this year and since I will be playing basketball this fall I will not be playing fall ball this year. I will miss my fall baseball, but I will be back next year in fall ball and looking forward to an even better season.
April 2001: It's only April and we are already well into our season. So far I am the starting second baseman and have been allowed to pitch in a game. I have also played first, shortstop, center and left fields. We are about 500 on the year but I am having a lot of fun and learning a lot.
October 2000: Now baseball is really over for the year 2000. I was lucky enough to get on Coach Tom's team for this fall ball season. My coach from spring ball had moved up, as his son is a year older than I am. Coach Tom is a very good coach and he taught me a lot during this short fall season. I played center field a lot, but got to play short stop, third base and was at second base a lot this season. My arm is getting stronger and the coach is no longer worried about me getting the ball to first from third or short stop, but I am best at second base. I had one play this season in which the ball went all the way to the fence between right field and center. I beat the right fielder to the ball and heard the coach yelling "Mike throw it to first". Even though I have been taught to throw to second always, I heard him and quickly threw to the first baseman that turned and fired it to the catcher who tagged the runner out at the plate. It not only kept him from scoring, it would have tied the game and instead it was the third out and we won the game. The coach told my dad he did not think I could get it to first from way out there and even if I was strong enough he figured that a throw like that would go wild, but it didn't! The season ended with a four game series for the championship. We only had three teams in our division of fall ball, so we played each team twice. Our team is the division Champions as we won all four of our title games. It was a great season and I can't wait for spring.
June 3, 2000: Baseball is now over! We were on the expansion team of pre majors for Hernando Youth League. For a young and inexperienced team we did very well. We placed second in our division and had a good season. I did not do as well in the Spring League as I did in Fall Ball, but in our win today I hit a real nice single and got an RBI. During the season I played Left and Right Field, but was almost always in Center Field. I ended the season at Second Base where dad says I do very well. I got to both pitch and catch in practice, and plan on playing ball again next year as it was a lot of fun.

My Batting average for Fall League 1999 ended up at .765, with 10 RBIs and 6 stolen bases.
I scored 6 times. I have been hit 3 times by wild pitches, I was walked 2 times. Out in the field a ball hit me so hard that it knocked a tooth out. I have 2 strike out, and under coach pitch, I have about eighteen strikes that they did not count. If we count all pitches coach and player my batting average would have been .542 which is not bad either!
In the field: I got to play short stop, second base, first base, third base, pitcher, left center field, right center field and right field and ended up with two fielding errors.
I have wanted to play baseball for a long time. I guess it's my Michael Jordan complex. Also my two nephews in Texas have played for a long time, and I always like watching their games. Anyway I have joined the "fall ball" league and that plays all of September, and most of October two days a week. My first baseball game ever was Friday Sept. 17, 1999. My dad says he is very proud of me. I wanted a home run, but did not get one. I was only up to bat once, and I got a single. Dad says all base hits are good. Home runs are rare and getting on base is what helps the team. He also says that I am the only person he knows that has a batting average of 1000. He said to write this quickly because it won't last (it did not, only for the first game). I played left center field and shortstop in the game, I made several good plays and one not so good a one. Dad said it was a great first game.
As stated above I had a tooth knocked out in practice, which never has happened while sparring in the Martial Arts! It was a baby tooth and was loose before the ball hit it anyway. I have had to put Tae Kwon Do on hold for these few months while I play baseball. Dad says I should get the chance to try all kinds of different things while I am young, as long as none of it gets in the way of schoolwork!
I had a great first season in baseball, and I seem to have played pretty well also. I think I will play baseball again in the spring, because it is real fun. ![]()
